  1. great effort and contribution sir lots of thanks for this . i would like to clarify something i am a 3rd year BPT student also 3rd year student of BTS(bachelor of tourism studies) from IGNOU so is this going to help me to cover general credits ?????

    ReplyDelete
  2. yes definitely it's going to help cover your credits but you need to evaluate according to the checklist tool of cwt5. There are few pts who get more than 60 general crdits but lack in specific section.

  3. Hi

Great article and it breaks down all the complex monster of general credits into simple steps. I'm enrolled into BSc general course from IGNOU which would cover almost all of my general credits. I have 2 questions.
    1. Is having a general credit in Maths mandatory? IGNOU will not allow me to take up maths because I didn't have it as a subject in class 12th.
    2. where can I complete the 'Delegation' professional credit from?
    Regards

    ReplyDelete
  4. Maths is definitely compulsory. You could do it from other universities, I was in a similar situation as that of your.

Delegation is no where in India. You could do it from A T Still university, Philippine rehabilitation Institute, St Augustine University.

  5. Great post!!!

I have few queries regarding completing the FCCPT CWT 5 checklist.

If you or any one else filled that up and if you send me sample or post in your blog will be great help.

I have completed BPT from India in 2007 after +2(CBSE). Can I use +2 courses to fulfill the general credits?

    Thanks,
    Priyanka

  6. ou cannot use 12th courses to fulfill you're general credits because
the courses required are college level courses and your high school or
primary school can't fulfill the purpose.
CWT 5 checklist is not a form but a checklist. Which means is just
gives you an idea of what courses you are supposed to do, it helps you
    evaluate yourself.

  11. Hi,
Could you please tell me if credits from mahatma Gandhi university accepted by fccpt?

    1. There are around three Mahatma Gandhi Universities. i assume you are talking about the one situated in Meghalaya. Well it is UGC and DEC recognised hence it is supposed to be accepted. It also depends upon the course and the recognition to the course for the year you studied in. In the recent past one agency had misused this university because of which probably few mark sheeets were rejected

      Delete
  12. I'm talking about the one situated in Kerala. I've heard about an agency COMMIT in Hyderabad that helps in getting credits from Mahatma Gandhi University in Kerala and Karnataka State Open University. Is the agency legit. Is this the very university whose marksheets were rejected?

    1. Thank you Afrin for your words of appreciation. UGC is not a college or university but a governmental body that gives recognition to educational institutes such as universities and colleges. You need to search for colleges or universities that may fulfill your purpose. Presently we are helping Indian PTs complete their general credits through UGC and DEC recognized universities. kindly mail at united.indian.physios@gmail.com for further details.

I understood what u meant about the ugc universities after a lot of research. just wanted 1 doubt cleared please. if I enrol in ignou for associate studentship as well as a course in a ugc recognized open university, is it valid? because ignou offers only 16 max credits in 6 mnths.. would be very grateful if you could solve my query. thanx a lot!

  23. Sir, thank you very much for insights!!
I have a question - I came to know that for NY License one can appear for NPTE exam without completing General Credits as they don't want that. They want the credits to be done at the time of H1B. So is it required to complete the Credits first just to pass the exam??

Also i want to know if is it possible to complete the mandatory general credit courses like Physics Lab & Chemistry Lab from India? And if it is so, where can we get it done from?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Sir in your blog you mentioned that once the credits are complete one can start for NPTE exam and also start preparing for the H1B Application. Is it possible to start for the H1B before even having license for respective state in your hand? Do we need to go to recruiter for that or normal employer will do so as well?

  27. Although this website mentioned some valid points and good points, unfortunately the ONLY show in town is IGNOU. The website did NOT mentioned any good alternative to IGNOU and was vague as to what could be realistic option. They mentioned short cut but did NOT go details as to other viable alternatives to IGNOU. This MUST be taken VERY seriously given the fact that the FCCPT has taken a very TOUGH position on accepting credits through certain programs like the one from this website. There was the COMMIT company out of Hyderabad and their credits were rejected and viewed as fraudulent. Please see below. I would therefore deal with IGNOU and aim to complete the credits in 2-3 years. It is a pain, but it is now only courses that FCCPT ACCEPTS on a consistent basis.

I am a Health Care Immigration Attorney, and have process quite a few Indian PT H-1B applications with FCCPT Type 1 Credits. Almost Everyone of these Indian PTs but one completed their credits through IGNOU. The ones that did not do IGNOU completed their credits in the USA at the community colleges or through the CLEP exams.

The following information is what is being verified by the FCCPT for distance education

coursework in India. This is required to determine if the educational experience meets the

criteria of Post-Secondary education and is not continuing education.

Applicants may request their University to send the following information with their

    documents.

    1. The name and address of the study center.

    2. Verification that the study center does not violate the jurisdiction territory as outlined

by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

    3. Evidence that the study center is not franchised. This means that it cannot be affiliated

    to more than one university.

    4. Verification that the University is in charge of admissions to the distance education

program. Admissions cannot be done by study centers as per UGC regulation.

    5. That the program is authorized to be offered through distance education by the

Distance Education Council (DEC). Even though the DEC has been disbanded by the

UGC, the regulations stay in effect until the UGC publishes new standards.

FCCPT will contact the University directly with any questions that we have regarding distance

education coursework, or if there are any irregularities in the documents being provided. If

studies are done simultaneously the FCCPT will verify that this does not violate the UGC

    regulation of doing degrees simultaneously."

    1. Dear Ronnair, I appreciate the help that you are rendering to Indian PTs. And thank you for expressing your positive and negative views on the blog, i hope we can have a healthy discussion directed towards enrichment of the profession.

The basic intention of this blog is to help Indian PTs understand two important points 1) What is the meaning of general credits 2) How do we complete general credits.

Many would have been happy if I had posted specific ways to complete general credits but that would have defeated my purpose. It would have been like a sheep following the one ahead of it without knowing where it is destined to go. Here I have posted the formula and not the solution. This blog encourages PTs to make their own research, analyze the facts, convince themselves of where they are heading to and take an appropriate decision for themselves. And this infact opens a wide range of options for everyone according to their personal requirement.

      Delete
    2. I would further appreciate if you give more evidence for your stand and not just personal experience.

1)Well why do you think IGNOU is the only option and there are no other options available. Why does FCCPT accept courses done only through IGNOU and no where else. My experience differs than that of yours.
      2) What do you know about COMMIT, what resemblance do you find between commit and the blog I have posted above.
Im glad you have cautioned everyone, and I would like to caution everyone too.
      3) What defines a TOUGH position.
      4) The 6 points that you have enlisted are from FCCPT website, why do you think those 6 points are mentioned.
      5) I dont understand why would you invest 3 painful years in ignou when you could legally do the same in shorter time frame.

    3. Dear Ronnair,
I accept your comments for the article, its informative, has only generalized information only not precised and clear way to get the both general and professional credential units. even though the work should be appreciative and given an a whole idea about credentialing issues, now i am coming to the part why nothing is clear and precise in this article, every on read the article would have come across the word mutual which means to get an more information we have to contribute come thing to the blogger its like an agency not an informative blog for physiotherapists, now i want to make a point that i need to know as a Indian physio holding master degree in physiotherapy has how much professional credits and should i need a any other course do the answer is i too don't know how much credentials we are having but i know we need to do some course called as consultation, screening, referral and delegation which is an online course you can find in Philippine rehabilitation institute which is recognized institution the course fee around 500USD some this around 31000 rs which includes tuition fee, document means transcript copy fee, syllabus copy fee and courier fee. now i am moving to general credits we need 60 credit units, but i don't know how much units we are lacking but definitely we are lacking, we need to do some courses in physics, humanities, mathematics according to FCCPT guide lines now we have to find of the universities to get this courses this is the game first of all we dont know how much credit units we are lacking and where to study the course and one more thing do we need to study all the above mentioned area or only one is enough, and which university to study and how much it ill cost, these are the areas the blogger left open to all, if you want to do all this credential process pay him 45000RS he ill guide you to get your professional credentials only not professional credentials, so 45000+ 31000 for CSRD course so it will cost around 76000rs, so if you have time and agility to gather information keep on search any how you have to find general credential issues only, i guess it wont cost more than 25000RS all you need is do an research mail to FCCPT about your concerns you can find out or else contact the blogger and pay him the mentioned amount which includes your general credits and NPTE guidance and TOEFL guidance and assistance in H1B visa and job offer, its all guidance not an training.
now coming to TOEFL you can join any institution and you can start to study. NPTE so many blogs are there and model tests are there my advise to NPTE study guide to get an idea about what type of questions being asked and prepare to study according to that standard, even i can suggest what are the books you should study, if you are surfing you ill get more much informative things.
as a conclusion- Studying NPTE is in your hand.
TOEFL also the same star to prepare.
Join in CSRD in Philippine rehabilitation institute course for professional credits i know this institute only right now if i come across any other institution ill update.
      - for general credits still i am searching if i come across ill update in same blog. if not ill contact the blogger and pay the money to him for his kind assistance.

  32. Thank you for such an insightful, accurate evaluation of the procedure.
I really extend my gratitude on behalf of the entire foreign educated legion of PTs trying to find their way through the maze that is "PT in USA" !

I am in NJ now and am about to initiate the process of completion of general credits through CLEP.

    I have 2 questions :

    1. Is it true that NY state does not care much about general credits as long as professional credits are above 90 ?

I personally find it hard to believe that, but so I have been told.

    2. Is a person on H4 visa legalised to work on limited permit in NY till the time she takes the exam and gets her license ? Is there a procedure to follow ?

Despite the best efforts, I have been unable to get these two answers.

Looking forward to your reply, as yours is the most precise, practical info I have come across on the internet.

    Thanks,
    Tanvi.

  49. I am in my 4th year doing my BPTh. I am a little confused as to what path should I use.I wanted to apply in USA. I was told the following:
Apply for Physical.Therapy.Assistant program as its easier, cheaper and does not need GRE/TOEFL-->work for 1 year as a PTA and earn money-->go for transitional D.P.T OR
Apply for FCCPT (credential evaluation), Appear for CLEP exam (deficit equivalency), appear for state license exam and practice as a B.P.Th OR
Give GRE/TOEFL and apply for DPT (most conventional approach)
I do not know when to give GRE/TOEFL as I am going to complete my internship around Feb-June 2020.
What is the ideal time to get this FCCPT evaluation and CLEP exam?
What is the prerequisite degree required and other requirements (example professional work experience) to get into DPT or transition DPT (TDPT)?
I appreciate your efforts in advance.

    1. Hello, Thanks for posting your query. I see that you are not just confused but you are completely misled. As you are suggested to apply for a 1 year PTA program, I wish to tell you that firstly a PTA program is not so cheap, secondly getting a visa to study a PTA program is very tough, thirdly PTA mostly is a 2 years course, thirdly you need FCCPT evaluation even to work as a PTA and you may still lack credits there moreover you need to have a license for practicing as a PTA and these are additional expenses, fourthly if you want to work as a PTA you still need a work visa i.e. h1b visa and you dont get h1b for PTA since it is not considered a skilled profession. If you are thinking of taking a CPT or OPT from the college you are planing to study, i doubt if you could avail it. I am puzzled why would you like to be a physio assistant when you are a Physiotherapist already.
Doing a Transitional DPT after your BPT is a good option. But you would still lack credits. There are universities that offer online DPT but most of then want you to be already licensed. Please note that you wont require a Masters to enroll into a DPT.

  52. Dear sir,

I'm sherin Siby. I will be completing my bachelor's degree from India in this April. I recently moved to Texas, and I got a green card. So I would like to get license in Texas board USA as a PT. So as per my knowledge I can apply for educational credential evaluation in FCCPT and then license exam in Texas board. But I will be getting my course completion certificate only by this may. So I thought I can take my lacking subjects exam from NIOS.
But I really don't know whether FCCPT will give credits for NIOS? Then what will be the subjects lacking for me?.
Any information regarding this will be greatly appreciated.

    I wanted to ask
1)Which deficits should I expect to receive in your general credits (studied from MUHS university completed in 2020)?
2)What is the commonest general deficit one receives or would expect to receive? eg- chemistry is commonest as far as I know. Correct me if I am wrong.
3)I have a couple of weeks free due to delay in my document procedures so is it possible to anticipate those deficits and start studying before Fccpt actually informs us about the deficits?
4)Also wanted to ask suppose I receive a deficit in Math subject do we compulsorily have to opt for Math or can we fulfill it by taking other subjects and equalizing the credits required for math?
    Thanks in advance.
